If you spend enough time on a trout stream, you eventually learn two things: first, trout are far smarter than they look; and second, fly fishing is far simpler than we tend to make it. The Margo+Lola Fly Fishing School we started in 2021 was born somewhere between those two realizations. It began in a small corner of the Driftless, with a simple hope - to make fly fishing feel less intimidating for people who had always wanted to try it. Uncomplicated and uncommon was the idea long before it ever became a tagline.

This book is a collection of uncommon questions curated from hundreds of beginners who were brave enough to ask them - questions that too often go unspoken and unanswered. The chapters weren’t written to show expertise; they were written to share the very normal arc of becoming a fly angler — the good, the humbling, and the occasionally foolish.
